23 January 2013 - Tv or not Tv?

I've been considering the reasons for my failings when it comes to establishing a sleep schedule and I'm pointing a large portion of the blame towards one of my guiltiest of guilty pleasures.

Bad reality TV shows. And I don't just mean like Masterchef bad (surprisingly it's one of the ones I don't really care as much for) I mean The Bachelor, The Bad Girls Club, Teen Mom and The Millionaire Matchmaker bad. That's really bad ay.

I have gotten into a habit of using these shows as a form of escapism and a means to wind down at the end of a night. I think because they represent such an "un-reality" it helps me to switch off any worries or stresses about my own life as I get to laugh at the silliness of theirs. Unfortunately taking the time to watch them is often what's cutting into my sleeping hours.

Watching television is not all bad; and I certainly don't intend to give it up entirely but I think I would just like to be more mindful about what I am watching and when. If watching a show is going to prevent me from prioritising something that is more important to me - like running, painting, spending time with the dogs, catching up with correspondence or SLEEPING then it might be best to give it a miss.

But if the house is clean, I've ran for the day and enjoyed time with friends and engaged in hobbies then you may just catch me sitting down to an episode of The Bachelor - with no guilt and no regrets attached.
