There is something so satisfying about the smell of a freshly cleaned kitchen - the surfaces all wiped down promising a sanitary environment within which to prepare your next meal. Where does the satisfying clean smell come from? The cleaning products.
Because I gravitate towards a fresh smell when it comes to cleaning I used to select which product I would buy as a household cleaner based on it's scent. Some of which sound more like exotic perfume than something to clean the kitchen with but I'd buy my cherry blossom and mint leaves with a hint of rose and vanilla scented spray and think nothing more of it.
Again, after making the decision to live a life that reflects how I value our environment, the ethics behind my selection of a cleaning product had to meet some new criteria I wanted something natural. Something created ethically and organically. And yet I still really wanted something that smelt good.

I have found two fantastic products since that it has been so easy to make a change to. Both Orange Power and EucoClean are made with all natural ingredients, smell amazing and are kind to the environment. EucoClean has been particularly helpful in our Queensland home as it works to deter bugs from the kitchen as well as cleaning the surfaces.Another possible step when it comes to changing your household cleaners is to make your own! There are some great ideas for homemade products here. If I give some of them a go I will blog a review of the product and results.
So the change I'm urging you to make this Tuesday? Choose a greener cleaner. The comparative cost is minimal (in fact some green cleaners are even cheaper) and it sends a message to the big cleaning brands that we care how these products are manufactured; and if they can't do it right - we can always do it ourselves!
