I spent a lot of time over the weekend frantically
scheduling my first week as a full time student to ensure that everything would
run smoothly. I even created a colour coded schedule to block out time for uni,
work, running, commuting, and dating my husband (a total of 9 blocks per week,
lucky guy!).
I hung the completed OCD masterpiece on my wall proudly knowing
that my busy week was safely contained within the little colourful squares.
At my scheduled wake time of 5am this morning I dressed in
my running gear while I’m sure I was still 90% asleep. I walked to the front
door and opened it to the sight of a torrential downpour. No run today.
But this allowed more time for the commute to my first chemistry
lecture. I envisioned myself arriving early to campus and settling down with a
coffee before leisurely strolling over to the lecture theatre. (I must have
still been at least 75% asleep and forgotten the sight I saw from my front door
mere minutes earlier. )
I drove for nearly two hours in the downpour and crawling
traffic before giving up on the task. No
lecture for me today.
At least I fit in the 11.5 hour work day after I’d turned
around and headed home. I just replaced the scheduled 5km run with Eating
McDonalds Hotcakes after failing to attend first uni lecture and the first uni
lecture with reading over the lecture slides while eating said pancakes.
I’ve always loved the use of the saying “Raincheck?” when
having to re-schedule a plan. The one worded explanation implies that due to
circumstances beyond your control what was initially planned will have to be
cancelled and/or moved to another, sunnier day.
Now it's time to colour the squares on my schedule from this morning all in blue. The new colour code for "rainchecked"
