Wednesday 27 March 2013 - Paper does grow on trees

When it comes to making day to day choices that contribute towards a more sustainable future for our planet a lot of it comes down to making some simple substitutions. These are changes that we are all capable of making; and it goes a long way when consumers vote with their dollar for products that are environmentally friendly and produced in an ethical way.

One small change that makes a big difference is thinking about the way that we use paper. We know that to produce paper we have to use trees; and that the production of paper then obviously has a significant impact on our environment.

How can we save paper?

Fisrt of all - go paperless in your home where possible (like in this video below).....

And when you can't go paperless......? Buy it recycled.

The difference in cost between a recycled paper option and non-recycled is only small but the impact making this change has our natural environment is large. In fact According to the Australian Conservation Foundation(ACF) “every tonne of paper recycled saves 13 trees, 2.5 barrels of oil, 4100 kilowatts of electricity, four cubic metres of landfill and 31,380 litres of water.

So next time you're browsing the supermarket aisle considering only the potential softness of the toilet paper brand you're going to purchase, take a second to think globally, care about the environment and choose a brand of paper that's recycled. I bet you don't even notice the difference.
